Although an 8th place qualifying effort last night was an ok result (updated from previously reported 10th place) the team knew they had left a lot on the table and we were determined to sort that out quickly this morning.

Ian from ASD said “We got behind the 8 ball a little yesterday, I think a combination of everyone being very tired with the time change and forgetting we weren’t at a Formula D event. Once we reset our goals and approached the chassis balance and mindset relative to where we are and what we’re working with, it all came back to us after a few chassis adjustments. I’m really happy with where we got to with the car after this mornings final practice, and JR is on fire behind the wheel. Let’s see how this deal shakes out tonight, but all going well I think we really have something for them now”.

We outsmarted ourselves a little in qualifying with a last minute gear change combined with cooling track temps and qualified 10th. A slight miscue with the chassis balance, but a good lesson learned for tomorrow night under what should be similar conditions. The car is prepped and ready for tomorrow morning practice followed by top 32 competition.

Current FD Drivers competing with us here include Frederic Aasbo in his Supra, Matt Powers in an LS1 powered S14, Kyle Mohan in an FC RX7, and Chris Forsberg in last years FD 370Z. Carl Ruitermann, Cole Armstrong, and Sean Falconer are also here from New Zealand and all running well. There are also a few Japanese D1 drivers including Takahashi, some drivers from Malaysia, and many Chinese drivers competing this weekend. Competition starts tomorrow at 11:00am for top 32 (11:00pm EST) and will continue through the day. We should have results posted by mid morning Eastern time Saturday.

This is Round 1 for their series, and some of the other US drivers attending are Chris Forsberg and Matt Powers. Vaughn is driving his own brand new car built by ASD specifically for international races in countries like China, Saudi Arabia and others to be announced. Stay tuned for more info as it comes in!

Vaughn’s new 2013 Monster Energy Falken Tire Ford Mustang RTR is an exact replica of his Formula D car used in the USA. Also in the photo is the custom outfitted 20′ container that travels with the car to all the races it attends. Features include a generator, air compressor, overhead lighting, full sized work bench, and as many shelves, cabinets and storage built in as would fit. This is truly a mobile garage!

ASD Mob member Lee Alexander just got back from the Club Loose Spring Moves event and has posted his weekend’s events on his blog. Check it out!

I just got back from an amazing day at Englishtown Raceway in New Jersey for Club Loose’s second event of the season, Spring Moves. This was also my second event and a second shakedown after fixing some issues from the first outing with the new engine and drivetrain.

We arrived and checked in, unloaded the car and gear, and assembled the front bumper and side skirts on the car so it would look pretty. Got the car tech inspected and attended the drivers’ meeting. Everything was falling in order and gearing up…
